April 2026 phone survey — Belfast Trust
Of 13 Belfast Trust practices that gave a status when phoned in April 2026, 0 confirmed actively accepting new NHS patients. 13 confirmed they are not currently accepting. Two practices in this Trust did, however, confirm participation in the Dental Access Scheme (DAS) — Elite Arches Dental Clinic (BT4 1AQ) and Twin Spires Dental Surgery (BT13 2JF) — for unregistered patients with urgent dental needs.
May 2026 update: two Belfast practices initially appeared as self-confirmed accepting via the directory's email dashboard, but a forensic review on 29 May 2026 found those confirmations were almost certainly auto-generated by corporate email-security scanners rather than practice managers. To be safe, both have been moved to Contact to enquire pending direct verification with their practice managers. The only NI practices currently independently verified as accepting new NHS patients are in Southern Trust (North Street Dental Care, Lurgan BT67; Cathedral Quarter Dental, Newry BT34) from our April phone survey. About Dentistry in Belfast
Belfast HSCT is home to Northern Ireland's largest concentration of NHS dental practices, with 74 general practices providing care to a population of approximately 368,000. The city has excellent dental infrastructure, including teaching practices affiliated with Queen's University Belfast's School of Dentistry.
Access to Dental Care: With 74 practices across the city, many Belfast residents have reasonable access to NHS dentistry. However, practice capacity remains limited, and several practices operate waiting lists. The Dental Access Scheme (DAS) provides a route to emergency care for unregistered patients, and the Emergency Dental Service operates across all postcodes.
Key Points: Belfast practices vary in size, from single-handed practices to large multi-surgery centres. Some practices focus on general care; others have specialist interests (which you can discuss when contacting them). Whether you're in central Belfast, South Belfast, or the suburbs, you should find practices within reasonable travelling distance. Use our search tool to filter by postcode for the closest options.
